Happy Halloween!

Got the pumpkin...

Yes, he is wearing one sock.
Scooping it out...
Justify FullNow to carve...

No, nevermind -- let's just draw a face on it!

Happy Halloween from a cowboy (yee-haw!) and his pony (neigh!)!

To The Botanical Gardens To Find That Scarecrow!

Remember when Harrison's class took that field trip to the Botanical Gardens to see the scarecrow they made? Well, we went, too -- and here she is (plus some other cute photos from the day)!
In case you can't tell, she's a skeleton -- I'm told she's the classic Mexican scarecrow, but I can't remember her name. Culturally appropriate for a Spanish-speaking preschool? Yes. Age-ally appropriate for a classroom of 3 year olds? I wasn't so sure, but I guess putting glitter on anything (including a bunch of bones) makes it kid-friendly. Also, Harrison called her his "skele-crow," which is pretty clever, even if unintentionally clever.

Harrison Treats at the Ice Cream Store

Great Grandmama Nell sent the boys some money in their Halloween card and instructed them to buy us all some ice cream and put the extra money in their piggy banks, so that is just what Harrison did. He was so proud to order and to get to pay that he tried to give the cashier person the money before he told them what we wanted. :) Thank you, Great Grandmama Nell -- it was delicious!

Airplanes!

If you ask Harrison what his dad does, he'll tell you that he flies airplanes. Went down to Dada's work for a visit and a tour of the hangar. Both boys thought it was pretty cool!

Baby-Proofing, a la Harrison

Harrison : "Mama, I put these rubberbands here so Hewitt could not get in the drawers."

Mama : "I see that, dear. Thank you practicing safety-conscious behavior."

Tacky Day at Preschool

Hewitt was not happy (hence the scowl...) when he realized that he was the only kid who dressed up. Poor guy -- that kind of stuff scars a kid!

Also, I believe those Chinese symbols labeling various classroom equipment say "steps" and "trashcan," but I'll have to confirm with Ms. Amy (upon whom Hewitt has an enormous crush).

That Hewitt : "He's A Messy Guy!"

Pointing out a helicopter just after finishing off a Halloween Oreo at Trader Joe's (they should call those cookies "Ore-Joe's"!). It was so gross. One nice lady offered to roll my cart back up to the store for me and then had to laugh when she looked at Hewitt when I told her it would be a while before I would have him clean enough to un-strap.

Harrison's First Field Trip!

Big boy Harrison and his friends from school took a field trip today -- they all packed up and went to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens to see their scarecrow (the Botanical Gardens has a scarecrow display each October, and some of the classrooms at preschool made scarecrows this year!). Harrison and I have been counting down the days to the field trip for about a week -- not sure who is more excited!

I packed his lunch (yes, there was a note in it and yes, I kept that note -- sniff, sniff)...

And dressed him in his preschool t-shirt (and also frog rainboots and frog raincoat)...

And off he went into the world!
Note little Hewitt in the background -- he snuck in with a cheezy smile :)

Here's a picture of him "on his own" at the Gardens (from his teacher -- I couldn't chaperone today)...

Men Doing What Men Do

Harrison has actually asked me to be careful so I don't get run over. I love that kid.

Gate Ganny Visits!

Great Granny ("Gate Ganny") came from (Ken)Tucky to visit! Harrison was so excited to see her again once I told him that she was coming to his house. :) That granny swooped in, freshened up our library with some new books, charmed the boys with her story-listening and story-telling, and just hung around for a few days of fun. Thanks for the visit, Great Granny -- please come back soon!

A little pre-Granny train ride

Gate Ganny and the boys (we tried to separate Hewitt's milk cup from his face, but alas...)

Showing off that he knows every letter and also can read (as long as the word on the card matches the picture on the card!)

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, yeah... Nothing like having somebody spoonfeed you some frozen lemonade while you relax on an adirondack

Train ride at the zoo! Gambob, Hewitt, Gammom, Dada, Harrison, Gate Ganny, and YaraJosh
