So What Does Harrison Do At School?

Harrison's preschool has a website they use to communicate with parents. I was looking around in the section for Harrison's classroom and found some recent photos! What does he do at school all day? Well...

He counts (look in the reflection to see who scored Miss Giuli's lap!).

He investigates.

He makes music.

He reads books.

And he drives trucks.

Who wouldn't want to do all that?

Flair

How many pieces of flair is Harrison wearing?

  1. Headscarf
  2. Slap-on sunglasses
  3. Clip-on tie
  4. Travel sunscreen on right hip
  5. Travel sunscreen on left hip
  6. UGA belt (it's invisible here, but it came later)
He's holding a light switch -- no idea why we have one of those!

"Oh, my gudnezz -- eh-panes!"

To commemorate our first Friday alone (aaaaaaaaaaaaah!) since Hewitt was born (a granny has been around for some or all of the day to help until this past week), the boys and I went to Chris' work to see the airplanes on display and have lunch with Dada. The hangar onsite has 5 or 6 unused planes stored in it and is open for employees to wander through, so Dada gave us all a tour and told Harrison all about each plane. They practiced naming each part of the plane and making the sounds that happen at takeoff. When the tour was over, we all had a picnic in the hangar. As usual, Hewitt slept through most of the outing.

The best part of the visit was when Harrison first walked into the hangar -- I didn't tell him what we were going to do other than "see Dada at work," so the airplanes were a big surprise. Chris picked him up and walked in the door, and Harrison said "Oh, my gudnezz -- eh-panes" ("Oh, my goodness -- airplanes") again and again and again! We couldn't get a video of him saying it at the time, but he did it a few more times when he saw the pictures, so that's the video below. :)

Sticks All Around!

Harrison collected and distributed sticks to everyone

Even "Baby Kyuget" is in on the action (and that's another sticker on his forehead, compliments of his big brother)

The Boys

No, Hewitt is not punching Harrison.

Week in Dalton

We all spent the week of July 4th visiting Chris' family in Dalton -- had quite a busy time!

Saw Dada's extended family...

Learned how to pose...

Practiced posing some more...

Zipped around on bikes...

Chatted with Great Grandmama Nell...

Rode on a real train...

Refused to look at the camera during the train ride...

Climbed on the front of a different train...

Did some kung fu...

Napped...

Made some discoveries...

Went hiking with Dada and Grandaddy...

Went to the Children's Discovery Museum in Chattanooga...

Played in the biggest bubble bucket ever...

Tried hula hooping...

Went on a date with a pretty lady...

Celebrated Dada's birthday...

Drank milk...

Waded into a deep, deep creek...
Debated with Grandaddy whether to keep going or turn back...
Won the debate (of course!)...

Chased Sparky...

And laughed alot (but not fake-laughing like this)...

Hewitt at 6 Weeks

The stats...
  • Weight : 12 pounds (88th percentile!)
  • Length : 22 inches (77th percentile!)
  • Adorability : Absolute.
The updates...
  • He smiles -- We haven't figured out what gets him to smile without fail, but he gives us grins when we're working for them and also just for free sometimes.
  • He talks -- Especially right after he eats. He used to end each meal in a milk-induced coma, but now he stays awake to visit for a while! Some of his best sounds are "nnnnnnnnnnnn" and "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
We all LOVE him! This morning I heard Harrison call "I need Dada" when he was ready to get out of his crib. Chris wasn't ready to free him yet, so he didn't go in right away, so Harrison called "I need Baby Brother" instead. :)

Quiz -- Part 1

For giggles, Chris and I came up with a list of some of our favorite Harrison-isms. See if you can figure them out, then look at Part 2 below to check your answers.

  1. "Rachel"
  2. "Dane doo"
  3. "Wipe feet"
  4. "Nee mee" or "noo mee"
  5. "Oh my gudnez"
  6. "Rite kee"
  7. "Hee-yah" or "hur"
  8. "Ober der"
  9. "Unna-ahm"
  10. "Udda unna-ahm"
  11. "Yuk at dis"
  12. "Kyu-get"

Quiz -- Part 2

  1. Rachel -- Thought we'd start with an easy one. Not sure if he understands that my name is "Rachel" the way that his name is "Harrison" or if some people call me "Rachel" the way he calls me "Mama." We've been around alot of people who call me Rachel instead of "Mama" lately, and he's picked up on it.
  2. Thank you
  3. Wipe your feet -- He's fairly strict on granting exceptions to the feet wiping policy (there are none).
  4. Excuse me
  5. Oh my goodness -- Applicable in many situations (exceptionally tall block towers, really dirty diapers, very large bites, other)
  6. Right here -- "Right here" in English combined with "Aqui" ("here") in Spanish.
  7. Here -- The second pronunciation ("hur") sounds like how a mountain man might say it.
  8. Over there
  9. Underarm -- He loves them, for some reason.
  10. Other underarm -- Because we all have two!
  11. Look at this -- The "this" is not always super-interesting (often a stick -- today it was a tower of alternating Cheerios and Craisins, which I have to admit was pretty good).
  12. Hewitt :)
How did you do?

Some other phrases we hear alot of but that aren't hard to translate are "I did it" and "I need..." and "Many" (in response to "How many ___ are there?" when the answer is three or greater).

Harri(son) Potter

Harrison fell into the bushes at school one day this week and ended up with a scratch similar to Harry Potter's!

World Cup

Chris reports that once Harrison's chosen team (Brazil) was eliminated, he opted for a safer bet : The ball. Yes, he now cheers for the ball -- "Go, Ball!"

Sleeping

Both boys are sleeping in their beds right now. Just wanted to document that it really is possible -- more as a reminder for me when I'm ready to list one on eBay than a "look what I can do" brag.

Great Granny's Visit

"Gate Ganny" has been here this week and has come down to see Baby Hewie and Big Brother Harrison each day. Harrison has still been going to school during the day, so it's Hewitt, Mama, and the Grannies for the morning and then the Wild One joins us for the afternoons. I was right, by the way, about Hewitt loving his Great Granny -- that child has slept more this week than ever before -- she's got the touch!

Some photos...
